Former Superman actor Dean Cain has been forced to eat his words after a failed attempt to discredit rising Democratic star Abdul El-Sayed.

Cain, a 60-year-old vocal supporter of Donald Trump, tried to go after the Michigan Democratic nominee for Senate in a social media post after El-Sayed, 41, made a jab at Trump on CNN Sunday.

“Has anyone ever seen a photo of Michigan Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El Sayed (D) playing High School football?” the Cain wrote in an X post. “He says he was captain of the team, but I can't find a single photo. Internet, please do your thing.”

Cain’s replies were filled almost instantly with pictures of El-Sayed in football gear, with X users pointing out that the politician had shared one of the pictures himself on Instagram in March.

“This literally took 2 seconds,” one X user wrote. Another commented: “Wow - that’s your (failed) attempt at a ‘gotcha’? I’d say stick with acting but nobody is interested in seeing that.”

One person wrote, “kinda weird that dean cain wants a picture of a high school aged boy, but a simple google search did the trick.”

Another X user found a 2002 article in the Detroit Free Press that mentioned El-Sayed playing on his high school football team, but it was apparently not enough proof for Cain, who responded to the post asking, “What newspaper?”

Cain, who announced last year that he was joining ICE to “help save America,” is known for playing Superman in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

The actor did not return The Independent’s request for comment. The Independent has also contacted El-Sayed for comment.

El-Sayed was captain of Bloomfield Hills Andover High School’s football, wrestling and lacrosse teams, according to his website. He has posted pictures of himself in his lacrosse and football uniforms on his Instagram page.

The popular Egyptian-American progressive has become a MAGA target after he recently won Michigan’s primary over moderate Democrat Haley Stevens. Trump, 80, and his allies have repeatedly attacked El-Sayed in social media posts, with the president pointedly referring to El-Sayed by his full name in a similar tactic to how he previously emphasized Barack Obama’s middle name, “Hussein.”

In a Truth Social rant Saturday, Trump posted a picture of himself and his wife, Melania, next to a picture of El-Sayed and his wife, Dr. Sarah Jukaku, with the caption: “Two VERY DIFFERENT America’s.”

When asked about the post on CNN, El-Sayed agreed that the two couples are in “very different Americas.”

“Yeah, he’s right,” the former public health official said. “One in which your overlords are two people who don’t like each other, but join in the interest of making billions of dollars off of you — or two people who genuinely love each other, enjoyed some pancakes together, want to come together to build the kind of America where they can raise a family and know that that family is going to have the good things.”

El-Sayed continued: “So yes, you’ve got two different visions of America. Donald Trump’s vision is the one you’re living in right now. Can you afford your gas? Can you afford your groceries?”
