At a time when students in neighbouring Jharkhand are protesting for education reforms and a fair examination system, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary proposed a four-point education blueprint from quality schools to Artificial Intelligence-powered examinations for the students in the State.

Mr. Choudhary on Monday (August 10, 2026) also kicked off the Har Ghar Tiranga (the national flag in every household) campaign in Patna saying: “Our ancestors as freedom fighters, sacrificed their lives to establish democracy in India and gave us this tricolour. This [flag] is not just a piece of cloth but it is our pride and marker of Indian democracy.” In a nearly 1.5 km-long tiranga yatra campaign, hundreds of participants waved the national flag from J.P. Roundabout to Kargil Chowk thoroughfare near Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

“Important decisions have been taken in Bihar to further strengthen, make qualitative and a student-centric education system,” Mr. Choudhary said in a late night social media post on August 9.

He further elaborated the four points comprising a State-level special committee that has been constituted to ensure quality education reaches every school while a State-level examination reform committee would make examinations in Bihar smooth, transparent, fair and modern. The committee will provide suggestions for better assessment of student’s knowledge, understanding and analytical abilities through the use of technologies and AI in board and competitive examinations as well as class-based evaluations; special collaboration camps will be organised for education reforms in which suggestions and problems will be heard through dialogue with the Chief Minister, State Ministers, MPs, MLAs and students. The fourth and last point in the blueprint was that students welfare directorates will be constituted in all relevant departments for better coordination and effective implementation of works related to students welfare.

“The Bihar Government is committed to quality education, a better examination system and building a bright future for students,” asserted Mr. Choudhary. “Students will be able to access online classes until 11 p.m. from August 15. The government would also work towards providing computer and English education to all children while promoting Sanskrit, Urdu and the five languages of Bihar,” he added while stating that “the government wants to create an education system that would reduce the need for students to leave Bihar in search of better opportunities”.

During the tricolour’s flag-off, the Chief Minister said that ”tiranga is not just a piece of cloth divided into three colours but it is our pride and marker of Indian democracy”.

Remembering freedom fighters, Mr. Choudhary added, “...Without their sacrifices and efforts, we would not have attained freedom 78 years ago.”

State party president Sanjay Saraogi, Minister for Cooperatives Ram Kripal Yadav, Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and others were also present on the occasion.

“Tiranga yatra has become a mass movement,” said Mr. Saraogi while announcing that “we will carry out a similar yatra at all district headquarters of the State on August 12”. “The tiranga yatra sends a message to enemies and traitors whose negative mindset weakens the nation,” Mr. Sinha said on the occasion.

However, both the Deputy Chief Ministers of the State from the ruling NDA ally, Janata Dal (United), Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary were conspicuous by their absence on the occasion.
