A pensioner has been charged after three women were sexually assaulted at a festival.

The 76-year-old man was arrested following the alleged attacks at the Fringe by the Sea festival that has been taking place this month in North Berwick, East Lothian.

The incidents and arrest took place at the town's Lodge Grounds at around 3pm on Friday August 7.

The OAP is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police Scotland said: 'A 76-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with three sexual assaults which happened on Friday August 7, in the Lodge Grounds area of North Berwick.

'He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.'

The popular Fringe by the Sea festival was founded in 2008 and has quickly turned into one of the country's most celebrated arts events.

This year the festival has run from July 31 to August 9 and has seen more than 300 performances take place including appearances from Louis Theroux, Ian Hislop and Ben Fogle.

Musical artists including Belle and Sebastian, Kool and the Gang and the Bay City Rollers have also thrilled the sell out crowds.
