A man has been arrested in Gurugram for allegedly posing as a doctor and illegally selling Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits from a medical store in Ghata village, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Vikas, is a resident of Delhi.

Police said he was allegedly treating patients without any medical qualification and supplying MTP kits to pregnant women without valid medical consultation. A case was registered after a complaint by Deputy Civil Surgeon and Nodal Officer (PNDT) Devender Singh Solanki.

The matter came to light after the Health Department carried out a decoy operation to verify the information. A woman was sent to the medical store with marked currency, and the accused allegedly gave her an MTP kit without a valid prescription and also explained the procedure for terminating the pregnancy.

Vikas was then apprehended at the spot, and the kit and the decoy money were recovered from him, police said. “During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused possessed neither a medical degree nor any valid medical qualification. He had been treating patients at the medical store for approximately eight months,” a Gurugram police spokesperson said.

The investigation further showed that he had allegedly been carrying out these activities with the knowledge of the medical store owner and the pharmacist. Police said the accused could not produce any valid records or bills related to the purchase, sale or distribution of the MTP kits. Further investigation is underway.

Police said the accused had allegedly been posing as a doctor for months, treating patients and supplying MTP kits without valid consultation, before being caught in the Health Department’s decoy operation in Gurugram.
