SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) -- A special counsel team said Wednesday it has indicted a former head of the Coast Guard over his alleged involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed 2024 martial law bid.
Kim Jong-uk faces charges of abusing his power for allegedly planning to expand Coast Guard personnel for a martial law investigative body after Yoon's martial law declaration on Dec. 3, 2024.
He also faces insurrection-related charges for allegedly dispatching a liaison officer to the military at the time.
Special counsel Kwon Chang-young's team sought a warrant for Kim's arrest last month, but a court dismissed the request, ruling that there was room for dispute over the allegations.
