NewsBites: ‘Sway’ singer Bic Runga, ‘Elvis’ Emilio Santoro to hold shows in Manila
- New Zealand singer-songwriter Bic Runga, the voice behind the global hit “Sway,” will perform in Manila for the very first time in a one-night-only concert on October 1 at the SM City North Edsa Skydome. Celebrated for her exceptional songwriting and enduring hit songs, Runga has built an acclaimed career spanning more than two decades, earning multi-platinum success and international recognition. Her timeless catalog includes beloved tracks such as “Sway”, “Drive”, “Listening for the Weather”, “Get Some Sleep”, and “Something Good”, songs that continue to resonate with audiences around the world. Since the release of her first single ‘Drive’ in 1996, Runga has been awarded almost every musical honor in New Zealand, including the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll songwriting award. She has won the most Tui Awards (New Zealand Music Awards) by any individual, including Best Female Vocalist and Best Producer. Bic’s debut album ‘Drive’ was certified seven times platinum and featured the enormous hit “Sway.” In January 2006, Runga was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Zealand New Year’s Honors List. In 2016 she was the recipient of the Legacy award at the New Zealand music awards and inducted into New Zealand Music hall of fame. Bic sits on the APRA board as a writer-director and on the executive committee of the Music Producers Guild New Zealand. In 2023, she was awarded by Rolling Stone Magazine with the Icon award.

Elvis Presley tribute artist Emilio Santoro will bring to life the music of the King of Rock and Roll, as he takes the stage in Manila on August 28. Together with his band, The Creoles, Santoro will relieve the golden age of rock and roll in a one-night show at the Solaire Resort in Quezon City, featuring the songs of made popular by Elvis. From groovy blues to soulful ballads, the Elvis-lookalike inherited his love for the music icon from his own mother, and he continued to be inspired as he grew older. Since then, he’s performed on numerous stages in Presley’s likeness, winning him multiple championships in both Europe and on a global scale. Santoro was also a finalist of America’s Got Talent in 2022, and has won the official Ultimate Elvis competition at Graceland during Elvis Week in 2024. Santoro will perform his award-winning renditions of “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” and the timeless classic, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” His live show will be opened by Filipino retro rock band, The REO Brothers. /edv
