Sony and Marvel Studios blockbuster hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to swing high at the global box office, setting more records as it blasts past $1 billion internationally and topped $700 million midweek in North America. The film has passed the first two Avengers movies and will pass a third on or shortly after this weekend.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day - By The Numbers
Spider-Man: Brand New Day should enter the weekend around $1.76 billion worldwide, and should put up $145 million in global ticket sales for its third weekend, positioning it for north of $1.9 billion by end of business Sunday, and potentially hitting the magic $2 billion mark if it continues to overperform.
This could put the new MCU sequel north of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $1.92 billion and on the cusp of passing Avengers: Infinity War’s $2.05 billion. The latter will be in Spidey’s rearview mirror come Monday or Tuesday at the latest.
Brand New Day is also destined to best the $2.07 billion of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens for the #6 spot on the all-time worldwide box office charts by midweek next week at the latest.
How much higher than that Spider-Man: Brand New Day can climb depends on momentum, and this weekend we’ll see if another overperformance is in the cards and points toward a finish north of $2.2 billion and a serious challenge to Titanic and Ne Zha 2 for either a fifth- or fourth-place finish on the charts.
While it’s still too early to tell whether $2.5 billion is achievable, the arrival of premium theaters including IMAX is helping boost sales to sustain momentum, and these good weekly holds and big weekday numbers bode well for sustained attendance. With many people preferring to wait for the optimal premium seats to be available before heading to the multiplex, it means there are still plenty of stragglers left and positive word of mouth to drive business, especially in overseas markets where IMAX and 3D are still enormously popular, including especially Asia-Pacific.
The rest of August brings a few challengers, mostly kid’s movies and family fare, including PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, Coyote vs. Acme, Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass, as well as the sci-fi actioned The Dog Stars. But none of these look like major contenders capable of slowing Spider-Man: Brand New Day to any significant degree. Combined, however, the weekly arrival of so many children’s films will likely take an increasing bite out of Spidey’s weekly family attendance.
I expect Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see a final cume through Sunday of about $1.95 billion, give or take a few million. From there, I think a moderate estimate suggests Brand New Day will finish its run somewhere around $2.18 billion to $2.2 billion. So for now, I think Titanic and Ne Zha 2 are safe in their respective spots on the all-time charts, but it won’t take much for Spidey to beat moderate estimates and threaten for a top-5 finish.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has only a few challengers for the title of highest-grossing 2026 film, and I suspect Avengers: Doomsday will ride the wave of good will and presence of Spider-Man himself to something at least matching if not topping Brand New Day. But nothing else looks likely to fall into that same all-time top tier, so I expect the MCU to finally rule the year’s box office charts again.
