In macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple has put extra effort into bug fixes and performance enhancements. And so far in the beta, my top quality-of-life improvement involves a Messages fix when logging in to my Mac.

Messages should be up to date and synced already when logging in to your Mac on macOS Golden Gate

One of the Mac’s best selling points over PCs is that it works tremendously well with the iPhone.

Continuity features like Universal Clipboard, iPhone Mirroring, and Handoff make working between an iPhone and Mac feel seamless.

But there’s one way macOS has long struggled to deliver that seamless Continuity experience: when Messages are temporarily out of sync after you first log in.

We’ve all experienced it. You log in to your Mac, and immediately start getting dinged with Messages notifications in the top-right corner for messages you’ve already read.

In macOS Golden Gate though, as part of its focus on performance and refinement, Apple has greatly improved Messages syncing across devices.

The company says that sync now happens more efficiently, such that when your Mac comes online, your unread message count will immediately be more accurate, and you won’t be notified about messages you’ve already read.

I use an iPad Pro as my primary computer, with the Mac serving a secondary role for me. And I’ve rarely had any issues with Messages sync across my iPhone and iPad. As a result, it’s always bothered me how the Mac has offered an inferior experience.

Now with macOS Golden Gate, that annoyance should be a thing of the past. And so far in the beta, Apple truly seems to have delivered.
