'Committed jihadist' is jailed for 17 years for plotting separate terror attack alongside Manchester synagogue knifeman

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for 17 years for plotting a terror attack alongside the Manchester synagogue knifeman.
Mohammad Asim Bashir, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, pleaded guilty to helping Jihad al-Shamie commit acts of terrorism as he went on a fatal knife rampage.
The delivery driver drove Al-Shamie on a ten-hour round trip to the UK's Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Swindon, on August 14 last year, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Two men were killed in as worshippers gathered at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue to mark Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews, on October 2.
Al Shamie, a Syrian-born UK citizen wore a fake suicide belt during the attack and was shot dead by police outside the building.
