The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened enrolment for its Winter Internship Programme 2026–27 and Term Internship Programme 2027.

The programmes aim to provide students with hands-on exposure within India’s largest national highway development ecosystem through live projects and assignments under the guidance of experienced NHAI professionals., a release said.

The Winter Internship Programme runs for one month from December 2026 to January 2027, while the six-month Term Internship Programme will run from January to June 2027. Students can indicate their preferred internship duration while submitting applications, considering variations in academic calendars across different institutions.

Under the Winter Internship Programme, 541 positions are available, while 542 positions are offered under the Term Internship Programme. Interns will be deployed across 125 ongoing national highway projects and various divisions of the NHAI and the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL). Selected interns will work under the supervision of NHAI officials and gain practical exposure to planning, construction, operation, maintenance, asset management, road safety, legal affairs, finance, media, and other areas.

Eligibility criteria

Final-year and pre-final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing full-time courses in recognised universities and institutions in India or abroad in engineering disciplines, BA LLB/Law, mass communication/journalism, the Rajbhasha Department, M.A. in HR/Industrial Relations & Personnel Management, and MBA (HR/Finance/Marketing or equivalent) are eligible.

Eligible institutes are identified on the basis of NIRF ranking and other academic benchmarks. One hundred seats are reserved for IIT students and 150 for NIT students. Interns will receive a stipend of ₹20,000 a month along with a certificate upon successful completion of the internship.

Applications must be submitted through the NHAI internship portal, https://internshipsatnhai.digitalindiacorporation.in. The portal facilitates online submission of applications, verification by institutes, selection by the NHAI, and complete internship lifecycle management. The final allocation of interns to projects will be handled by the NHAI based on merit, preferences, and availability. October 20 is the last date to submit applications, the release added.
