CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Sixteen people, among them 14 police officers, were rescued after a passenger boat sank off the Romblon town of Calatrava on Monday. The passengers were all brought ashore following the incident, according to reports from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Romblon and the Romblon News Network. Corcuera Mayor Elmer Fruelda said the boat had initially transported passengers from Calatrava to Simara. The 14 police officers and two civilians were passengers on its return trip.
