Because of the 1990 movie, we all know the word for a fear of spiders: arachnophobia. Well, if that describes you, we’d suggest not watching the trailer for the new movie Crawlers, and that’s not only because it’s got a lot of spiders in it. It’s because it’s got spiders in places spiders should never be. Like in your mouth.
Set for release on October 16, Crawlers is about “a catastrophic infestation of venomous and deadly spiders” in an apartment building. It follows the building manager, played by Matilda Lutz (the new Red Sonja), who tries to save as many residents as possible. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t look like she’s particularly successful. Here’s the insanely creepy trailer for Crawlers.
Honestly, if that trailer was just the spider-in-the-mouth moment, it probably would have worked. But then you get the spiders in the ceiling, spiders in the corpse, spiders in the air ductsâall those fun places where you would never ever want to see one spider, let alone hundreds.
If we had to guess, though, we’d imagine Crawlers is probably pretty cheesy. It’s an 81-minute film from a director (Ãngel Gómez Hernández) and writer (Jayson Rothwell) whose IMDB pages read like those weird movies you find at the very, very end of the horror selections scrolling on Netflix or Prime Video. But as long as it delivers some creepy moments, good scares, and a few surprises, you probably can’t complain.
Crawlers is coming to theaters on October 16 from Roadside Attractions and Saban Films. Are you going to seek it out?
