YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday assured support to the Rural Water Supply (RWS) contract workers in their demand for job security and removal of the third-party contract system.

A delegation of RWS Contract Workers’ Union representatives met Mr. Jagan at the YSRCP office in Tadepalli and submitted a representation highlighting their long-pending issues. They requested him to take up their concerns with the State government.

The representatives said around 7,000 contract workers had been operating and maintaining comprehensive rural drinking water schemes across Andhra Pradesh for the past 26 years. However, they alleged that workers continue to face uncertainty due to the existing contract system, reduced wages and delays in salary payments.

They informed Mr. Jagan that workers in several districts had not received wages for several months, causing difficulties in meeting household expenses, children’s education and medical needs. The representatives demanded abolition of the third-party contract system, clearance of pending wage dues, implementation of prescribed SSR wage rates and steps to ensure employment security.

After listening to their grievances, Mr. Jagan assured the delegation that the YSRCP would stand by the RWS contract workers and raise their issues with the government. He said the party would work towards ensuring justice for the employees and resolving their long-pending demands.

Party leaders V. Srinivasa Rao, Monditoka Arun Kumar, Devineni Avinash, Malladi Vishnu, and Tanneeru Nageswara Rao were present.
