Motorcyclist dies in crash near Hastings

A motorbike rider has been killed in a crash in Awatoto near Hastings this afternoon.

Police said the two-vehicle crash - involving a car and a motorcycle - took place on State Highway 51, just south of Waitangi Road, just after 4.30pm.

The rider died at the scene.

The road has been closed, with diversions are in place through Waitangi Road and Farndon Road.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area and expect delays.
