Lavish Chinese action game Tides of Annihilation seems to have found a replacement for Jennifer English, the award-winning actor who withdrew from voicing the game's main character Gwendolyn last month. And the replacement appears to be Angela Sant'Albano, who performed Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem.

This isn't 100 percent confirmed, but a recent gameplay demo shown in China in Shanghai displayed a different look for protagonist Gwendolyn - and a different voice. Comments underneath the video suspected Sant'Albano as the voice, and this suspicion was given credulity by Gwendolyn motion-capture performer Jennifer Prime.

Watch on YouTubePrime shared the Tides of Annihilation gameplay video on X, and in a comment response to someone, who claimed the voice was Grace Ashcroft, said, "Yep!!! But this time, no more screaming 'LEON!!!!'" Prime has since been mentioned in a number of retweets and stands by their comment. I'm trying to contact the game's developer, Eclipse Glow Games, for confirmation.

Jennifer English - famed for her work on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as Maelle, and for her role in Baldur's Gate 3 as Shadowheart - left the Tides of Annihilation cast in June "due to personal health reasons", the game's social media accounts revealed. However, she was said to be supporting the game in an advisory role and in helping find "talented performers who could carry Gwendolyn forward".

A little sneak peak into Tides Of Annihilation gameplay.

English herself has not - as far as I can see - posted about leaving the project, nor posted anything since July alongside her appearance in Critical Role's six-part Daggerheart mini-series, Age of Umbra: Shadowlands, which also featured Assassin's Creed and House of the Dragon star Abubakar Salim. That mini-series aired 9th July and wrapped last week; presumably it was recorded in one batch earlier on.

What's next for English, we don't yet know, but we wish her well in the meantime.

Tides of Annihilation, an action game inspired by Inception and The Matrix, retells Arthurian legend in modern day London, with big Bayonetta-like combat. It's in development for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, but there's no release date yet. It will be playable at Gamescom next week.
