The Roads and Buildings (R&B) department organised an anti-drug awareness rally in Vijayawada on Tuesday as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ initiative.
Flagging off the rally at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in the city on Tuesday, R&B Engineer-in-Chief V. Ramachandra pointed out that concerted efforts were needed to create awareness among people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to prevent the spread of substance addiction, particularly among the youth.
He said that drug abuse had emerged as a serious threat to society and stressed the need to address the problem at an early stage. He called upon people of all age groups to understand the adverse consequences of drug abuse and spread awareness among those around them.
R&B Chief Engineer K. Naveen said collective efforts were necessary to curb the use and illegal trafficking of narcotic substances. He urged young people to stay away from drugs and other harmful addictions and focus on building a healthy and promising future.
The rally was aimed at creating awareness among the public and youth about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and promoting the goal of a drug-free society, he said.
The awareness rally began at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium and proceeded through Benz Circle before culminating at the R&B department office.
