Following the news of Khmara’s appointment to the Ministry of Defense, the protesters announced that they were ending their protest for now and called on people to gather at Ivan Franko Square today at 7:00 p.m. They said they plan to hold these demonstrations every day at that time.

The protesters also noted that while it pains them to say so, this position “should belong to someone else.” “We have great respect for Khmara, but please don’t hide behind him,” the activists stated.

They chanted slogans such as: “We demand dialogue,” “Don’t ruin our future,” “Dialogue, not silence,” “Fedorov instead of Khmara,” “The people are the government,” “Don’t lead us to defeat,” “Power means responsibility,” and claimed that there is no dialogue with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Some of them held signs reading: “Bring Back Fedorov,” “Against Khmara,” “Thanks for Drapato, Bring Back Fedorov,” “Rusoriz has never been as powerful as it was under Fedorov,” and others.

As reported, on July 14, the Verkhovna Rada approved the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Along with her, the entire government automatically resigned.

President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Yevhen Khmara to serve as acting Minister of Defense and stated that, once the necessary legal procedures are completed, he will ask the Verkhovna Rada to endorse his nomination for the position.

In agreement with Zelensky, the government appointed Khmara and Andrii Sybiha to temporarily serve as acting ministers of defense and foreign affairs.

On August 18, Zelensky submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada to appoint Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Khmara as Minister of Defense.

On August 19, the Verkhovna Rada approved the President of Ukraine’s proposal to appoint Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that 103 Ukrainian servicemen had been released from Russian captivity.
