SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's exports surged 56 percent from a year earlier over the first 20 days of August, customs data showed Friday.

Outbound shipments reached US$55.2 billion in the Aug. 1-20 period, according to the data from the Korea Customs Service.

Imports went up 19 percent on-year to $41.2 billion over the cited period, resulting in a trade surplus of $14 billion.
