SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group's independent luxury brand, said Friday its cumulative sales in the United States have surpassed 450,000 units, a decade after entering the world's largest auto market.
Genesis said it had sold 454,049 vehicles in the U.S. as of July since its official launch in 2016.
The brand's annual U.S. sales surpassed 80,000 units for the first time last year, while first-half sales reached a record 39,088 units this year.
The strong performance was driven by solid demand for its sport utility vehicle (SUV) lineup, which accounted for 61.5 percent of cumulative U.S. sales.
Genesis said it plans to launch the GV90 and GV60 Magma in the U.S. and add hybrid variants to its existing lineup, further expanding its portfolio of luxury, electrified and hybrid models.
Genesis unveiled the GV90, its flagship electric SUV, at its world premiere in San Francisco on Wednesday. The model is scheduled to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
