A new species of flowering plant Begonia was discovered in Surigao del Sur in Mindanao, and has been named after acclaimed actress-singer Lea Salonga. The Begonia leasalongae, which was found growing on shady, moist, rocky slopes alongside a small creek in Sitio Cabugi, Unidos, Tago, Surigao del Sur, resembles Begonia noraaunoriae — which was discovered in 2023 and named after the late National Artist Nora Aunor.
