A coastal road connecting Koyilandy harbour with Kollam Angadi is set to become a reality. The project is nearing completion by linking several previously disconnected stretches of the road. As part of the work, two small bridges have been constructed across the Arayankavu canal and Koothavally canal.

The project is being executed under the supervision of the Harbour Engineering Sub-Division Office, Koyilandy, at a cost of ₹1.16 crore. Considering the vulnerability of the coastline to sea erosion and tidal ingress, the road is being laid as a concrete carriageway.

Officials of the Harbour Engineering department said the road was expected to be opened to traffic by the end of July or early next month. “The construction of the two bridges has been completed. Concreting of the road surface is progressing and is nearing completion,” an official said.

Once the road is opened, motorists will be able to travel from Kollam beach road to Koyilandy harbour via Kolam Kadappuram, Arayankavu, Koothavally, Gurukulam beach, Valiyakath Palli, and Mayan Kadappuram. The construction of bridges across coastal canals has made this continuous coastal route possible.

The road will provide fisherfolk from Kollam, Arayankavu, and Gurukulam beach with direct access to Koyilandy harbour without having to use the national highway. From the harbour, motorists can continue via Kappad to Kattilapeedika.

The road will serve as an alternative coastal route. The project is being implemented using funds sanctioned by the State government for the upgradation of coastal roads.
