Sometimes, a problem resolved at one place can show up uninvited at another. And that kind of “sometimes” is happening right now at Thambiah Road in West Mambalam.
On this busy road, a Tasmac outlet had been proving to be an irritant for residents for years, inebriated patrons seeming to claim the space around the outlet and causing inconvenience to the public. This problem has now graduated to a full-blown issue, one residents can no longer shrug off.
M. Govindarajan, a resident of Thambiah Road, notes that when the new Tamil Nadu government shut down Tasmac outlets uncomfortably close to sensitive public spaces, around four Tasmac outlets in T. Nagar received the axe. Govindarajan commends the move, but cannot help mentioning the side effect of this positive action.
Following those shutdowns, the rush at the Tasmac outlet in Thambiah Road has increased. With more inebriated people, the problems that go hand in hand with them have also shot up. Open urination by the drunk is rampant. They lie around the place.
Govindarajan notes that complaints about this situation have been made to elected representatives and a promise extracted that the Tasmac outlet would be shifted out of Thambiah Road. Residents want the promise to be fulfilled without any delay as every passing makes it impossible to put up with the inconvenience caused by the visitors to this Tasmac outlet on Thambiah Road.
