The Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia is set to host the Bahrain Grand Prix from October 2-4, Formula 1 announced Sunday.

Earlier this year, F1 confirmed that April’s races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia would not take place due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Both countries have been targets of Iranian missiles and drones in response to the military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran that began on February 28.

The prospect of holding both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix at a later date this year seemed highly unlikely, with only one possibly making a return if any rescheduling were to happen.

But now after the Malaysian government agreed to host the race this year on behalf of the Gulf country given the instability in the region, the Bahrain GP will make a comeback to the calendar at the beginning of October, taking place at the iconic Sepang International Circuit.

“We are delighted to confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026,” Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of F1, said. “Once again, the sport has demonstrated its ability to adapt, find solutions, and deliver, creating an exciting moment for everyone who follows Formula 1.”

The return of the Bahrain GP in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, creates a triple-header with Azerbaijan and Singapore, running from September 26 to October 11.

The F1 2026 calendar now features 23 races, with only one event canceled.

“This is fantastic news for our fans,” Domenicali added. “They will continue to enjoy a full and exciting Formula 1 calendar, while also seeing the sport return to a great venue. Malaysia is an incredible country, and Sepang holds a special place in Formula 1 history.

“It will provide a spectacular setting for racing and an unforgettable experience for fans at the circuit and watching around the world.”

Kuala Lumpur first joined as a venue on the F1 calendar in 1999, with the last race held there in 2017 where Max Verstappen celebrated his second career victory with Red Bull.
