Forget gender or nationality, the next James Bond should be monogamous, says franchise star Trina Parks.

Conversation surrounding who should play the next 007 has been rumbling on ever since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo after 2021’s No Time To Die.

The subject has become something of a hot debate with some, including ex-prime minister Keir Starmer, suggesting that a woman should play the part. Others, meanwhile, have taken issue with the suggestion that Jacob Elordi, an Australian actor, could play the famously English spy.

More important to Parks, however, who played Thumper in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever opposite Sean Connery, is the question of the spy’s fidelity.

“Of course I would like them to keep the romance in, but perhaps not give him a multitude of partners,” said the 79 year old, as per The Telegraph.

Following Amazon MGM Studio’s controversial acquisition of the iconic franchise earlier this year, Parks has urged bosses to make a film that “reflects the modern world where women are stronger characters and hold powerful positions”.

Parks, who made history as the first African American actor to play a Bond Girl, said: “I don’t want the women to just fall into bed with him because he is good-looking.

“It should be a female who he has got to prove that he is worthy of being her bed partner. Of course audiences want to see seduction and that vintage flavour, but the women need to be on an equal footing.”

Despite the spy’s seemingly outdated views on dating, Parks insisted there “is still a place for Bond” in the modern world.

“They can reshape the films again for a new generation. Of course you’re going to have new and young people, but they need to keep it going,” she said.

Parks went on to say that she wanted the next Bond girl to be a “match both physically and emotionally” for the secret agent.

Casting the “Bond Girl” role is one of several challenges currently facing Nina Gold who has been tapped to cast the forthcoming movie, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve of Dune and Blade Runner 2049 from a script written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders.

That said, the main task at hand remains finding the right actor to play the super spy himself. Elordi, Callum Turner, Harris Dickenson, and Jack Lowden are all reportedly in the mix.

Speaking to The Independent, however, a former Bond casting agent said all of the rumoured names are too famous for the coveted part.

Veteran casting agent Debbie McWilliams – who previously cast Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig – said: “It is absolutely essential that he retains a total enigma. I don’t want to see any of them as Bond because we now know so much about them.”

More recently, previous Bond writers have urged Steven Knight and Villeneuve to “lighten up” the character and have him tell more jokes.

“We had definitely been thinking, ‘It needs to lighten up. It needs to be entertaining,’” Robert Wade, who wrote Casino Royale alongside Neal Purvis, told The Times.

The search for the next James Bond is officially underway, with studio timelines pointing to a theatrical release in 2028.
