A New Jersey man was arrested after a 2-year-old boy overdosed on cocaine while allegedly in his care at the Jersey Shore.

Alexander Moles was charged after the youngster fell ill in North Wildwood on July 20, suffering from difficulty breathing.

Prosecutors say that firefighters were called to Moles’ vehicle, stopped at an intersection, after they received a report of a sick boy.

“EMS administered two doses of Naloxone nasal spray (NARCAN), to which the child responded to, and transported the two-year-old to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional for further medical attention,” the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.

“Preliminary blood tests of the two-year-old male were also positive for cocaine.”

Moles, of Ringwood, New Jersey, faces charges of child endangerment and possession of cocaine, among others.

Investigators say that Moles, 39, was on vacation at a property in Wildwood at the time of the incident.

Court documents obtained by New Jersey 101.5 state that Moles was staying at a rental property with a woman and other children.

The documents state that he was responsible for the children while the woman took a shower. When she returned, she found that the boy was “sleepy”. Moles allegedly called her on his way to the hospital, saying that the child was falling asleep and the woman called 911.

Investigators say that during a search of the property, they found pieces of a pill, several tinfoil packets labeled “tapentadol hydrochloride”, and a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance, the outlet reported.

Moles was booked at Cape May Correctional Facility and released following a detention hearing on July 24, officials said.
