Selections based on a soft track
Race 1
3. Artgirl has had her share of chances with eight placings from 11 starts. The blinkers go on for this. She’s run well twice at Newcastle in handy maidens. Good hope. 2. Claudel has been bouncing around with her distances and she was up to 1400m when run down by Saloon Passage two weeks ago. Up another 150m but no surprise if she’s able to win. 5. Rebel Shield ran a handy race on debut behind Omolong, but you have to forgive last time when out the back on a heavy track at Randwick. Chance to show up.How to play it: Artgirl to win.
Race 2
1. Elle Hudson broke a run of outs when scoring quite a strong win against similar opposition at Newcastle two weeks ago. Down in weight and ran well in BM78 grade before his win. Can’t see any reason 2400m will hold any fears. The one to beat. 4. War Ribbon can be hit and miss but he did run well at Canterbury two starts ago before a fair midfield finish at Rosehill on a heavy track. This is the right race for him to make an impact. 3. Sablonneuse ran sixth behind Elle Hudson before scoring over the 2400m at Kembla last weekend. Stayer on the rise. Has to be considered. How to play it: Elle Hudson to win.
Race 3
8. Eviction Notice may have bumped into a smart one when he resumed at Warwick Farm and while he couldn’t match the winner he held the rest safely. Has to be fitter, drawn to be prominent and his two group placings say he has the ability. 14. Wanda’s Spark is an interesting filly making her debut, she’s out of the smart mare Wandabaa, and she’s looked good in two trial wins. Watch betting, she’s drawn well and in shrewd stable. 11. Steel Will has trialled nicely leading into his second preparation. Trial was sharp and has to be respected. How to play it: Eviction Notice to win.
Race 4
2. Deep Pleasure hasn’t had a lot of luck this preparation with draws or other misfortune but she was brave when doing battle with Satono Jasmine at Warwick Farm last start and the form has held up. Ideally placed here. 1. Concordia Wind looks the logical danger. She finished best to score at Warwick Farm two runs back then up to Saturday grade and just battled on a heavy track at Rosehill. Rises 8kg for the big class drop. 6. Cuesta was always prominent when scoring a popular win at Kembla Grange and she could be ready to go on with it in a race that doesn’t have a lot of depth. How to play it: Deep Pleasure to win.
Race 5
4. Champagne Hero is very close to a win after a nice improvement second-up at Warwick Farm where he sat just off the speed and was looking strong at the finish. Could be looking for a little further but great set up for him to go close again. 2. Interjection did an excellent job to finish as close as he did when running into third at Warwick Farm last time. Different set up if he can make use of a kinder draw. 8. Tanglewood Jimmy is in great form and was solid in betting when third in the same race as Champagne Hero. Stays down in the weights and looks a chance. How to play it: Champagne Hero to win.
Race 6
5. Rantan ran a nice enough race against a poor set-up behind Ice Kool at Randwick last month and he might have found a race where he’ll get some favours for once. Draws handily behind what should be a genuine tempo and on his best he’d take holding out. 2. Winning Proposal showed a glimpse of form when leading and kicking away before being run down by Big Red Tequila at Rosehill. Could take some catching back in grade. 6. Vella’s Best is a consistent type who was placed behind Ice Kool before being beaten as favourite on the synthetic at Canberra a month ago.How to play it: Rantan to win.
Race 7
10. Transcend is an interesting runner resuming from a campaign where things didn’t pan out for her. Ran well in the Adrian Knox before a break. Her trials have been promising and she lands in an open race. 8. Anthracite started $2.40 at his Sydney debut and didn’t perform and was rested after another unplaced run in February. Nothing wrong with his latest trial and he bears close watching. 3. Engine Room found it a bit sharp for him when resuming two weeks ago but he did work home okay. Distance rise in his favour and he can be expected to be a lot more competitive. How to play it: Transcend to win.
Best Bets: Race 4 (2) Deep Pleasure; Race 5 (4) Champagne Hero
Best value: Race 7 (10) Transcend
