The Kansas City Chiefs were hit with heartbreaking news after disturbing new details emerged from a shooting involving offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's family. Authorities say Bieniemy's wife, Mia Bieniemy, survived after suffering multiple gunshot wounds at the family's home in Ashburn, Virginia. Their 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The shocking case unfolded while the Chiefs continued training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eric Bieniemy stepped away from football duties to be with his family as local investigators and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared updates on a case that has sent shockwaves across the NFL.

The biggest new details came from Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman during a media briefing on Monday, one day after the shooting at the Bieniemy family's Virginia home.

Chapman said deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a shooting in Ashburn. When officers arrived, they found Mia Bieniemy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds while the suspected shooter remained inside the home.

"When we responded, we found that there had been a victim of a gunshot wound. She had received multiple gunshot wounds, two actually, and the suspect was in the house with her.

That's who we ended up arresting in this investigation," Chapman told reporters during media briefing.

The sheriff confirmed the shooting involved members of the same family and said investigators do not believe the public is at risk.

He said, "It's a family-related issue. A family member shot another family member," Chapman said. "It's apparently a domestic issue, so there's no threat to the community."

One of the most striking details from the briefing came when Chapman described how emergency responders were first alerted.

"The mother had called in the shooting, and it was involving the son," Chapman said, adding that Mia Bieniemy remains in stable condition at the hospital. "Her husband is with her."

Authorities arrested Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, at the scene. He is being held without bond and faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.

Chapman also said detectives are continuing to interview witnesses, review statements, and collect evidence from inside the home to determine what led to the shooting. He added that investigators were not aware of any previous incidents at the residence.

PlusE, Andy Reid addressed the situation after the Chiefs' practice in St. Joseph on Monday. The veteran coach confirmed that Mia Bieniemy's condition had stabilized and made it clear that football is taking a back seat.

"I can't get into details, but things happen sometimes. Eric will work through it. He's got a great support group here, as does his family," Reid said during his post-practice press conference. "Mia is stable, which is a plus."

Reid also spoke emotionally about Eric Bieniemy's wife, whom he has known for years. "She's a saint. We all know that. One of God's good blessings," Reid said. "The most important thing is that EB has an opportunity to spend some time and take care of that business."

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet disclosed what led to the shooting. For now, the focus remains on Mia Bieniemy's recovery as Eric Bieniemy stays with his family during one of the most difficult moments of his life.
