MOSCOW, July 28. /TASS/. Brussels shouldn't expect the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to sponsor Yerevan's "marathon swim" toward the EU, the press service of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said in a statement.

The SVR noted that many European countries have already signaled to the EU leadership that they are unwilling to open their markets to Armenian goods.

EU demands

"Brussels bureaucrats "will continue to assure Yerevan of their unconditional support. The EU intends to explain the delay in providing concrete assistance by saying that joining the EU will depend entirely on Yerevan and its 'achievements' on the path to European integration," the SVR said.

The European Union is already demanding that the Armenian government sever humanitarian ties with Russia and reduce the presence of Russian business: "The government of Nikol Pashinyan is already being pressed to reduce the presence of Russian business in strategic sectors, sever humanitarian ties with Russia, and suppress domestic opponents who oppose this process."

According to the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), "this policy is supposed to be encouraged by manipulating the prospects of visa liberalization for Armenian citizens and promises to transform Armenia into a 'prosperous crossroads of the world' in the 'wonderful future.'"

Economic issues

Brussels understands that it will not be able to compensate Yerevan for the billions it will be leaving on the table as a result of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU): "Many European nations have already signaled to EU leadership their unwillingness to open their markets to goods from Armenia to the detriment of domestic producers."

The EU realizes the inevitability of a deep economic crisis in Armenia if Yerevan finds itself outside the EAEU: "According to information received by the SVR, Brussels realizes the inevitability of a deep economic crisis in Armenia if Yerevan finds itself outside the Eurasian Economic Union."

As the SVR notes, "zeroing out revenues from participation in Eurasian integration will not allow the stability of the Armenian authorities, who are 'rowing' towards the EU, to be ensured at the expense of EAEU members."

"The EU is enticing Armenia, but cannot help it," the SVR says.
