CD Projekt Red has already confirmed it's hard at work on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion, but that might not be the only video game in development. It has now been reported that a game based on the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also in the works.

The game, codenamed Gemini, is reportedly a 2.5D brawler inspired by the hit anime from Studio Trigger, set in the Cyberpunk universe. According to MP1st, the game was being developed by WayForward, the studio behind River City Girls and Shantae. Details on Gemini were discovered in a former WayForward developer's portfolio, which describes the project as a rollback-driven brawler in development between 2025 and 2026. The portfolio also labeled the project as a CDPR title in the R&D phase. Also included was an internal logo that features the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners branding with the Gemini name included.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has arguably seen more success than the RPG on which it is based. While Cyberpunk 2077 took years to rectify a disastrous launch, Studio Trigger's anime was met with widespread critical acclaim when it was released in 2022. Since then, Edgerunners has crossed over with other games. Anime favorite Lucy became a playable character in the fighting game Guilty Gear Strive and the gacha game Wuthering Waves. It would make sense for CD Projekt Red to capitalize on the property's popularity with a game of its own. A second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is due to be released this fall.

Further reports indicate that WayForward had an unannounced project in 2025 whose development was halted. The studio then underwent a round of layoffs last September. If that unannounced project was in fact Gemini, then the game may no longer be in active development. With only the portfolio details to go on, it is unclear what the fate of Gemini is.
