TEHRAN, July 29. /TASS/. Iran condemns the United States and Saudi Arabia’s attacks on Iraq, as they serve to expand the war in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry said.

"The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns in the strongest terms the aggressive attacks by the United States and Saudi Arabia on a number of areas of Iraq. These attacks are a clear encroachment on the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, a gross violation of paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations charter and fundamental norms of international law, and also serve the interests of the United States and the Zionist regime, aimed at expanding the scale of war and conflict in the West Asian region," the ministry said in a statement.

It expressed its condolences over the deaths of Iraqis from the strikes and pointed to the responsibility of Washington and Riyadh for the "dangerous consequences of these criminal, inhumane and provocative actions."

Saudi Arabia Defense Ministry spokesman Turki al-Maliki earlier said that the kingdom's army, in coordination with the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, had launched targeted strikes against targets associated with the formations operating on Iraqi territory that were involved in attacks on the kingdom's oil facilities.

The Iraqi Shiite militia Al-Hashd al-Shaabi said earlier on Wednesday that the number of fighters killed in the attacks increased to 20, and at least 32 people were injured.
