Anyone who’s collaborated on something at work knows that everyone has an opinion. And sometimes those collective opinions turn into too many comments on shared Google Docs.

In a relief to document admins and editors everywhere, Google has just granted Gemini with the ability to handle all the replies and to tackle edits.

Gemini replies to all

Google Workspace is rolling out four new Gemini-powered features. As Google lays out in a blog post about them, Gemini can now:

• Synthesize and Q&A comments: Ask Gemini to summarize comment threads, extract key themes, or identify unresolved issues blocking your project. For example, you can say "Summarize all comments from Sarah" or "Based on the comments, what are the unresolved issues?"
• Add new comments: Ask Gemini to insert comments on your behalf, such as "Add a comment asking Roberta to verify the stats in the launch readiness section" or "Review this blog post as a copy editor, leaving comments focused on clarity and narrative flow."
• Draft contextually grounded replies: Quickly respond to open comment threads with drafts generated by Gemini. For example, "Reply to the thread confirming that we’re approved to launch on April 1" or "Respond to Sarah’s question with a link to the latest CSAT deck from my Drive."
• Suggest document edits: Ask Gemini to suggest updates to document content based on reviewer feedback, such as "Rewrite the introduction to address Roberta’s feedback." Gemini will generate suggested edits for you to review, approve, and seamlessly apply to your document.

This AI-powered assistance will show up as suggestions as you open a document or make your way through comments. If you want to access them more directly, you can enter queries in the Gemini side panel or type them in the bottom bar.

For admins, the features are on by default if Gemini for Workspace in Drive is enabled. Those with edit access have to have Workspace smart features enabled.

Check for availability

The Gemini features are available for those on Google’s Business Standard and Plus plans, Enterprise Standard and Plus plans, Education Plus plans, AI Expanded Access plans, and to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

They started rolling out yesterday and should be widely available within 15 days.
