Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's swansong, Jana Nayagan, has crossed the Rs 20-crore mark in domestic advance bookings, including blocked seats, just a day ahead of its theatrical release. According to reports, over 7 lakh tickets have been sold in India in three languages. The H Vinoth directorial has continued its impressive pre-release run despite a seven-month delay, an HD leak months before release and an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan has grossed over Rs 20 crore in India in advance bookings, including blocked seats. Excluding blocked seats, the film has sold tickets worth over Rs 14 crore, with the Tamil version accounting for an overwhelming majority of the pre-sales.

Tamil Nadu continues to be the film's biggest market, contributing Rs 7.90 crore in advance bookings. Karnataka follows with Rs 6.03 crore, driven largely by the phenomenal response in Bengaluru, while Kerala has added Rs 1.91 crore, highlighting the film's strong traction across South India.

Among cities, Bengaluru has emerged as the biggest contributor with Rs 5.99 crore in advance sales, underlining Vijay's massive popularity in Karnataka. Chennai follows with Rs 1.86 crore (with limited openings), where occupancy has remained among the highest in the country. Coimbatore occupies the third spot with Rs 90 lakh, while Hyderabad, Madurai, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram have also posted encouraging numbers ahead of release.

Language-wise, Tamil continues to dominate the bookings, contributing more than Rs 14 crore through the sale of over 7 lakh tickets across thousands of shows. The Telugu version has registered comparatively modest advances, while the Hindi version has seen limited traction so far.

Standard 2D screenings account for almost the entire advance booking total, with premium formats contributing only a small share of the overall collections.

The strong pre-sales come even though Jana Nayagan is currently trailing Vijay's previous blockbusters Leo and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) at the same stage. GOAT had grossed Rs 29.83 crore in domestic advance bookings before opening to Rs 126.32 crore worldwide, while Leo had amassed Rs 46.36 crore in Day 1 pre-sales (excluding blocked seats) before collecting Rs 148.5 crore globally on its opening day.

Trade, however, remains optimistic that the film could witness a last-minute surge in bookings. With Vijay bidding farewell to cinema after a 33-year career and now serving as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, exhibitors expect fans to turn up in large numbers to celebrate his final big-screen outing.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain and Nassar. Originally scheduled for a January 9 release, the political action drama was delayed for over seven months due to certification issues and legal hurdles before finally locking July 23 as its release date.
