Free MRT-3 rides every Wednesday in August for National ID holders

MANILA, Philippines — Commuters can ride the MRT-3 for free during the morning and evening rush every Wednesday in August when they show a National ID, the Department of Transportation said on Friday, July 31.

The free rides run from 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Passengers can present a physical card, a digital National ID or a printed ePhilID at the station.

The DOTr is running the program with the Philippine Statistics Authority to mark the anniversary of Republic Act 11055, the Philippine Identification System Act.

A second round of free rides is set for September 26 to mark Global Identity Day.

The PSA is also keeping its National ID registration desks open at the MRT-3 Araneta-Cubao and Taft Avenue stations.

Then-President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11055 in 2018, creating a single ID for Filipino citizens and resident aliens and naming the PSA as the implementing agency.

More than 90 million Filipinos are registered as of January.

Since March, the DOTr has cut MRT-3 and LRT-2 fares by half for all passengers.

That brought the MRT-3 minimum fare down to P6 and an end-to-end North Avenue-to-Taft Avenue trip to P14.
