As July draws to an end, Andhra Pradesh’s rainfall deficit stands at 52.4%, with not even one district reporting normal rainfall.

According to rainfall status on the Directorate of Economics and Statistics on July 30, Thursday, the districts of Prakasam, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Annamayya and Chittoor have reported large rainfall deficit, whereas the remaining districts have all reported deficient rainfall.

For a long time, rainfall in NTR and SPSR Nellore districts remained normal, but as days progressed without much rainfall, the deficit percentage has risen in these two districts as well.

While a deep depression was formed over the Bay of Bengal, much of its activity is focussed in the States of Odisha and now in Chhattisgarh. A.P. has not received much rain, apart from light showers here and there.

On Thursday, too, while it remained cloudy in most parts of the State, a few stations received light showers, with the day’s highest being 22 mm, recorded in Marripudi mandal of Prakasam district.

Meanwhile, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over western parts of central Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh moved southwestwards. It is very likely to move nearly westwards across Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually into a depression by Thursday midnight and further weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours.

The IMD has not forecast much rain for the State until August 3. However, strong surface winds, with a speed reaching 40 kmph-50 kmph, are likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
