Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the 38th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and like all of its predecessors, it has a post-credits scene that hints at what is to come in a future installment. Right now, Tom Holland is not officially known to be reprising his role as the webslinger in a future movie, but the final scene of his fourth Spider-Man film does include a pretty overt clue that weâll be seeing him again sooner rather than later.
If you came here to find out how many post-credits scenes are in Brand New Day without spoilers, the movie has one post-credits scene at the very end and nothing at the mid-credits. Now, if youâve already seen the movie and want to dig a little deeper, read on.
Brand New Dayâs post-credits scene is short, and no characters actually appear on screen. Throughout the film, Peterâs best friend Ned has been shown to have become a Spider-Man superfan, and has developed an app to track sightings of the hero as heâs swinging around New York City. In the scene, we see the Spidey Tracker app activate in response to a new Spider-Man sighting, but itâs not in the city. Itâs not even on Earth. The app says Spider-Man has gone off-world forâ¦something? Then we get the confirmation that weâll see Peter again when Marvelâs signature âSpider-Man Will Returnâ text appears on the screen.
Strictly within the context of Brand New Day, this is probably confusing, as the movie gives no reason for Peter to have left Earth, but thatâs because this is likely a setup for Avengers: Secret Wars, as Holland is not among the actors revealed to be returning in Doomsday later this year. The story of Secret Wars in the comics has Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming films) deconstruct and reconstruct the multiverse into one planet called Battleworld. If the movies follow this storyline, it would make sense for Spider-Man to end up on this new planet, thus appearing to have left Earth.
We learn in Brand New Day that Spider-Man has some ties to the New Avengers, thanks to his meeting with Yelena, the new Black Widow, so itâs surprising that heâs supposedly not getting involved in the fight against Doom in Doomsday. However, fans are also theorizing that the movieâs trailers could have edited some heroes out to keep some things secret. Weâll see how/if the movie addresses his absence when it comes to theaters on December 18.
