Robbie Williams has poked fun at his World Cup interview after it went viral when fans suspected a white substance had fallen from his nostrils.

The singer, 52, performed during the opening ceremony of Sunday's game, but later when he was chatting to pundits, fans spotted something white falling from what appeared like his nostril, with him quickly removing it from the microphone.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Robbie poked fun at the viral clip as he confirmed it was a mint that fell out his mouth and apologised for being 'deeply unprofessional'.

He penned: 'Just woke up and feeling…. Mint'.

Pretending to be serious in the video he told fans: 'I would just like to apologise for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday.

'It was deeply unprofessional and people worried about me. But it's okay because I had several more.'

Robbie then opened his mouth to reveal several mints in his mouth.

The singer kicked off the World Cup final 2026 with an incredible pregame performance at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday night.

Robbie, 52, got the party started on stage with Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini.

He put on a vibrant display in a sequin blue Adidas tracksuit and displayed his edgy rock star hairdo.

Robbie made a quick outfit change to watch the match with his glamorous wife Ayda Field.

Ayda looked stunning in a pale blue blazer and kooky white sunglasses as she supported her husband.

Robbie sparkly World Cup look drew comparisons to one of TV's most iconic characters, after one fan noted the look was eerily similar to the tracksuit worn by mobster Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri in the HBO series The Sopranos, which aired from 1999 to 2007.

Posting a snap of the singer, the post was captioned: 'Robbie Williams is in his Paulie from The Sopranos era.'

Pretending to be serious in the video he told fans: 'I would just like to apologise for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday. It was deeply unprofessional...'

Paulie was one of Tony Soprano's henchmen on the show, and later became a captain in the DiMeo crime family in his quest for approval from family head Tony.

Known for his slicked-back wings, gold chains, and relentless one-liners, he was played by Tony Sirico, who died in 2022 after being diagnosed with dementia several years earlier.

For the first time in history, FIFA has controversially decided to add a halftime show to the biggest game in global football.

Billions of fans tuned into Sunday's game as Argentina bid to secure a second successive World Cup triumph against Spain.

This year, however, the teams will be forced to share the stage with the likes of Madonna, Shakira and Justin Bieber as football is given a slice of the Super Bowl treatment.

As well as a halftime show, the World Cup final will also include a closing ceremony that will feature performances and appearances from Coldplay, Post Malone, Tom Cruise, Nicole Scherzinger, influencer IShowSpeed, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, Robbie and Italian singer Laura Pausini.
