Linda Blair’s property was recently searched as part of an investigation into an alleged kennel operation reported to be housing over 100 dogs.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning turned up at the Exorcist star’s residence to execute an inspection warrant.

“The goal is to inspect this property for buildings and structures associated with a kennel operation reported to have more than 100 dogs,” the DACC said in the statement to People.

The department said the kennel facility’s permits expired in 2023 and alleged that multiple attempts to contact the owner went unanswered.

“The warrant allows us to lawfully access the property and verify compliance with County codes,” the DACC continued.

The agency said that its involvement with the search was to assess “animal care, safety conditions, and overall welfare of the dogs housed on the property.”

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of both the animals on the property and the people who may be working or residing here,” the department said. “This inspection will help us determine whether conditions meet required standards.”

The Independent has contacted the LA Department of Animal Care and Control for comment.

Blair has since spoken out about the situation in an Instagram video. Describing the early morning visit as “a really big surprise,” the former child star claimed the issue was just a matter of paperwork that needed to be completed.

“Turns out we just have some paperwork to do and some diagrams but as everybody knows, I’m looking to move so I can be more educational and help more animals,” Blair wrote in the caption.

In the clip, she assured fans that both she and the animals are “fine,” and aired her frustrations that physical mail “isn’t used more often to notify somebody.”

She signed off the video, reminding followers that donations to her nonprofit animal rescue organization, Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, are always welcome, as are volunteers and foster homes.

“It’s a big crisis we’re dealing with in California and across the country,” Blair said of animal euthanasia, “so any and all support would mean the world. The rest of us are just trying to take care of our chores every single day and [the] commitment we have already given to the animals.”

The actor, 67, is best known for her Oscar-nominated role as the 12-year-old, demon-possessed Regan MacNeil in the 1973 classic horror film The Exorcist. She also appeared in its 1977 sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic, and other similarly spooky movies, including Stranger in Our House (1978) and Hell Night (1981).

While Blair still acts in movies sporadically, she largely stepped away in 2003 to dedicate her time to animal advocacy and support her foundation.
