I love hunting for new utilities and launchers, but most fail to pass even the most cursory checks. My simple rule is this: If it's not worth using after a day of use, it gets deleted.

Still, there are plenty of apps like Tasker that require days to start working efficiently, but here are four powerful and , and I'm still using a week later.

For my personal life, I generally use screenshots to convey information quickly to friends.

The common theme across both lives is that screenshots are temporary. Within hours or minutes of taking them, they're just wasting space on my phone.

Sure, I can stop my phone from backing up my screenshots folder and clear out the folder every month, but there are always a few screenshots I want to keep.

Enter Mark. Now, when I take a screenshot, a window appears asking if I want to auto-delete it after a preset time. There's also an option to share and keep, or share and delete.

The catch is that if I can't sync it with my Google Photos backups, these screenshots still clutter up the cloud. But at least Google Photos makes it .

CalcTape Calculator keeps track of long calculations

Part calculator, part notes app

I'm currently in the process of moving out of my apartment, and last week I sorted out bills, moving out costs, fees, and other costs.

CalcTape saved me. It's a calculator (surprise!) that saves all steps in a calculation and lets you add notes to each line.

Modifying a line modifies the entire calculation, and each page can be saved separately for future reference.

For example, here's a short calculation I built to estimate what I needed to pay my roommates and vice versa. This way, I could immediately see where costs came from and modify them if needed.

Even for small tasks like this, I found the app to be well worth upgrading to the Pro version (a one-off payment of $4.49).

UnforgetTodo stops me from forgetting urgent reminders

Although its clunkiness will put many off

UnforgetTodo was the closest I came to ditching an app on this list. The idea is fantastic, but I nearly gave it up due to the awkward execution.

The premise is simple: a to-do list that lives on your lock screen. This sounded fantastic to me, as despite my excellent method of making notes and reminders, I often forget to action them until it's too late.

Seeing my to-do list every time I unlock my phone is the best reminder method I've discovered. Until I complete the task, it lives there until I dismiss it.

The catch is that it makes unlocking my phone a chore. It's now a double-action to unlock my phone and dismiss UnforgetTodo, which still feels awkward.

However, I'm willing to live with a little awkwardness if it means I stop forgetting to do my laundry.

Pinnit supercharges Android's Notification History

It's also a handy reminder tool

Pinnit caught my eye with its ability to pin notifications to my notification shade. However, it turns out it's really a supercharged version of Notification History.

If I receive a notification I don't want to forget, I open Pinnit and … well, pin it. It's handy, if clunky, but I kept it around for its other features.

, but it lacks significant utility. Pinnit lets me filter notifications by time, app, or date.

It also lets me create notifications. If you need a constant reminder of something, and you find UnforgetTodo awkward, this is an excellent alternative to setting reminders.

Furthermore, I can add notes to notifications and schedule them to alert me again later.

Pinnit might be named after its flagship feature, but really, it's a supercharged version of Notification History.

I love apps that don't interfere with how I use my phone

While I find "complete overhaul" apps intriguing, I rarely find one that sticks around because they often change too much to be useful.

These apps have worked their way into my daily life simply because I did not have to rethink how I use my phone to enjoy them.

However, there's one launcher I've kept around despite it completely replacing my Pixel launcher's features. Comfer Launcher is the only launcher I recommend for .
