A Sydney woman has died in hospital one week after being struck by an elderly driver as she crossed the road to collect her children from school.

The family of Nurhayati Pamungkas confirmed her death on Tuesday morning, saying the injuries suffered when an 82-year-old driver crashed into two pedestrians on The Boulevarde, Lakemba were “just too severe”.

A statement was released by Dick’s Hotel Balmain, where Pamungkas’ husband Agung works as the head chef.

“We are heartbroken to share that Nurhayati has sadly passed away,” the statement read.

“Agung, our head chef, and their two children were by her side, but her injuries were just too severe … Please keep Agung and his family in your thoughts as they begin to navigate life without their beautiful wife and mum.”

Pamungkas, 43, was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition after the incident, and was placed into an induced coma as her condition deteriorated.

Footage of the crash shows the driver running through the intersection, hitting Pamungkas and another pedestrian as they crossed the road. The other pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was treated for head injuries at St George Hospital.

More than $50,000 has been raised to support the Pamungkas family since the crash through a public fundraiser organised by Dick’s Hotel owner Elia Economou.

In a statement attached to the online fundraiser, Economou wrote that the lives of the family were “turned upside down”, as he implored the Balmain community for their support.

Agung has worked at Dick’s Hotel for more than five years, where he has “quietly looked after people through food, smiles and friendship”, Economou said.
