Rental prices in Spain reach record high

The price of renting a property in Spain rose by 6.8 percent year-on-year in July to €15.30 per metre squared. This makes it the highest rental price in the country since property portal Idealista began keeping records.

The recent Idealista study shows that rents have increased by 2.7 percent in the last quarter and by 0.8 percent since June.

It also reveals that Madrid is the region where it's most expensive to rent, registering a year-on-year increase of 6.6 percent, reaching €21.4 /m2, followed by the Balearic Islands with €20 /m2, and Catalonia, where rent is at €16 /m2.

Spain on track to welcome 100 million tourists

Spain continues to break tourism records and is already on track to reach a new milestone. Between January and June 2026, 46.56 million international tourists arrived in the country, 4.6 percent more than in the same period of last year. If this pace continues during the second half of the year, the year could end very close to 100 million foreign visitors.

This would put Spain closer to France, currently the most visited country in the world, welcoming 102 million foreign tourists in 2025.

Benidorm police search for relatives of abandoned urn of ashes

The Benidorm Local Police have been trying to locate the relatives of a funeral urn containing ashes that was found in a locker at a local supermarket.

According to information provided by the police on their social media, the urn was discovered on Monday August 3rd by the supermarket manager when she was checking the lockers used by customers to deposit their belongings.

So far police have released a photo of the urn and requested the public's help in locating its owners.

Spain's Defence Minister urges Morocco to investigate migrant rush

For the first time, a member of the Spanish government has pointed the finger at Morocco following the mass migration crisis that happened in Ceuta, with thousands of people storming the Spanish enclave.

Defence Minister Margarita Robles called on Morocco to investigate the mass influx of migrants "to the very end". "Whoever was behind this, the mafias or whoever allowed it, will have to take responsibility," she told the media.

"We cannot look the other way, neither Spain nor Morocco, in the face of this human tragedy," she insisted.
