Gelato the kitten gets purpose-built wheelchair after homemade Hot Wheels version went viral

A disabled kitten named Gelato has received a new wheelchair after his previous DIY version made using Hot Wheels cars went viral.

Gelato, along with four other kittens, was discovered by Cincinnati Animal Care at the side of the road last month.

He was unable to walk or stand, and it was soon discovered that he had a spinal injury in his lower back. However, weighing just over a pound, Gelato was too small to fit into any wheelchairs at the shelter.

Mallory Smith, the veterinary assistant lead at the shelter, took matters into her own hands and created a makeshift wheelchair using cardboard, rulers, and Hot Wheels cars.

Gelato has now received his own purpose-built wheelchair, which was made using a 3D printer.
