Tulu Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia in the Tulu language, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on August 6, 2026, Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the digital preservation and promotion of the Tulu language and culture.

The Tulu Wikipedia officially went live on August 6, 2016, after spending eight years in incubation.

It grew steadily over the past decade through the dedicated efforts of volunteers. Today, it features more than 3,700 articles covering a wide range of topics, including history, culture, science, geography, literature, and current affairs. The project is supported by a vibrant community of around 25 active contributors, who continue to enrich the encyclopedia with reliable and freely accessible knowledge.

To commemorate this landmark occasion, the Karavali Wikimedians User Group, promoter of the Tulu Wikipedia, has planned anniversary celebrations on September 12 and September 13, 2026 in Mangaluru. The events will bring together Wikimedians, language enthusiasts, educators, students, and community members to reflect on the journey of the Tulu Wikipedia, recognise the contributions of volunteers, and discuss future initiatives for strengthening Tulu-language content across Wikimedia projects, a release said.

Over the last ten years, the Tulu Wikipedia has become an important platform for preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of Tulunadu while making free knowledge available to readers around the world. The anniversary celebrations are expected to inspire more people to contribute, collaborate, and support the continued growth of the free knowledge movement in the Tulu language, it said.

As the Tulu Wikipedia enters its second decade, the community looks forward to expanding its content, welcoming new contributors, and further strengthening the digital presence of one of India’s rich and vibrant regional languages, the release said.
