Wanted American arrested in Davao City

DAVAO CITY –- A 53-year-old American wanted for three counts of assault in Massachusetts, USA was arrested here Wednesday evening.

Lt. Cdr. Reynante Vilela, public affairs chief of the Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), identified the suspect as James Charles Davis.

Davis was collared at the Inspiria Condominium along J.P. Laurel Street here by Navy operatives in close coordination with personnel from the Bureau of Immigration – Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Davao.

Davis is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Newburyport District Court, Massachusetts Trial Court, United States, for two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault, Vilela said.

Records from the Bureau of Immigration’s Central Query Support System (CQSS) showed that Davis entered the Philippines last March 4.

The BI-FSU classified Davis as an “undesirable and overstaying” foreigner.

The suspect was initially turned over to the Bureau of Immigration – Fugitive Search Unit for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.

He is currently under the temporary custody of the Davao City Police Office’s Police Station 18.

Davis will be transferred to Manila for further processing.

“The successful operation highlights the importance of intelligence sharing and close interagency collaboration in locating and apprehending individuals wanted for criminal offenses. It also underscores the Philippine Navy’s continuing role in supporting law enforcement agencies through timely intelligence and operational coordination,” Vilela said.

He said the NFEM remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting joint law enforcement initiatives that uphold the rule of law, enhance public safety and contribute to the peace and security of eastern Mindanao.
