Cebu weather: Fair conditions expected, but strong winds persist

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Cebuanos could expect generally fair weather on Monday, August 10, although localized thunderstorms and strong winds might occur, said the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Cebu might experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening but would otherwise see mostly fair weather.

Moderate to strong winds from the southwest and moderate to rough seas will also prevail over Cebu and the rest of the Visayas.

Temperatures in Cebu would range from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius, Pagasa added.

Habagat brings rains

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is still expected across Luzon and the western sections of the Visayas due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat.

As of 5 a.m. Monday, Pagasa had issued an orange rainfall warning over Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Pampanga, Rizal, Bulacan, and parts of Cavite, Batangas, and Tarlac.

A yellow rainfall warning was also raised over the remaining portions of Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, and Quezon.

The bureau also issued a gale warning for the western seaboards of Central and Northern Luzon and the seaboard of Extreme Northern Luzon on Monday morning.

Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, including motor bancas, while larger vessels should operate only with experienced crews and proper equipment, the advisory said.

Tropical storm outside PAR

Tropical Storm Peilou remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 3 a.m. Monday, Pagasa located the storm 2,515 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.

The bureau said Peilou is not expected to directly affect local weather conditions as it moves away from the country east-southeastward at 25 kilometers per hour.
