Airport Rail Link resumes full service at 10.07pm on Wednesday after officials removed a train that derailed at its depot in Khlong Tan, Bangkok.

Anant Phonimdaeng, governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), said the full service between Phaya Thai and Suvarnabhumi airport stations resumed after officials removed the train that earlier derailed and checked a railway switch at the derailment scene in the Khlong Tan depot.

He said SRT, SRT Electrified Train Co (SRTET) and Asia Era One Co had yet to conclude their investigation into the derailment.

Asia Era One which took over the Airport Rail Link operation from SRTET said it would replace the railway switch and improve the reversing loop in the depot where the derailment happened to prevent such an incident from recurring.

The derailment occurred at the depot at 12.47am on Wednesday when an Airport Rail Link train derailed as it was returning to the depot after concluding its service at 12am. It blocked the deployment of train on the railway throughout Wednesday and only one train remained operational, at one hour intervals instead of 10-15 minutes intervals.

Airport Rail Link connects inner Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi airport which is Thailand’s main airport. It operates from 5.30am to midnight with six to eight trains depending on traffic. Its EMV contactless ticket payment system also resumes operation.
