U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he discussed the need to end the Russia- Ukraine war during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
He announced this on X, according to Ukrinform.
"Met today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial. We discussed the U.S.-Russia relationship and the need to end the Russia-Ukraine war," Rubio wrote.
According to The Moscow Times, Rubio and Lavrov's first meeting in nearly a year lasted just 35 minutes.
As reported by Ukrinform, Rubio told reporters on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila that the United States remains open to playing a constructive role in negotiations aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
