Cebu’s most iconic culinary tradition once again took center stage as The Mactan Newtown celebrated the 10th Cebu Lechon Festival, bringing together food lovers, families, tourists, athletes, and local communities for a month-long showcase of the province’s world-famous roasted pig.

Held throughout August at Mactan Alfresco in Megaworld’s integrated township in Lapu-Lapu City, the festival highlighted not only Cebu’s celebrated lechon but also the stories, craftsmanship, and traditions that have made it a symbol of Cebuano identity. Visitors enjoyed a vibrant mix of food, culture, entertainment, and community activities that transformed the township into a lifestyle destination for locals and tourists alike.

“Cebu lechon represents generations of Cebuano culinary traditions, craftsmanship and pride, with recipes and roasting techniques passed down and perfected through generations,” said **Marilou Kiunisala, General Manager of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls for The Mactan Newtown. **

Celebrating Cebu’s culinary heritage

Now in its 10th year, the Cebu Lechon Festival has grown beyond a food fair into a signature celebration of Cebu’s rich culinary heritage. It provides a platform for local lechoneros and participating communities to showcase the traditions that have helped establish Cebu as the country’s lechon capital.

One of the festival’s highlights was The Great Cebu Lechon Market, where visitors sampled signature roasts from participating cities and municipalities, including Barili, Medellin, Samboan, Consolacion, Dumanjug, Lapu-Lapu City, Carcar City, Dalaguete, Argao, and Alcoy. Each booth reflected the unique flavors, roasting techniques, and family recipes that distinguish every locality while celebrating the province’s shared love for lechon. 

The festival also welcomed athletes and visitors attending the IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, giving them another opportunity to experience one of Cebu’s most celebrated culinary traditions during their stay in Lapu-Lapu City. 

“We also want the athletes to have something to look forward to before and after the race,” said Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Maria Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan.

A feast beyond the table

Beyond the lechon displays, the festival offered visitors an immersive lifestyle experience where food, entertainment, and community came together.

Families explored interactive activities such as Paint My Lechon, where children expressed their creativity through miniature lechon artworks while parents enjoyed the food market and explored the township’s dining and retail offerings. 

Food enthusiasts also gathered for the Sugbuanon Paksiw Wars, Lechon Chef Cook-Off, and Lechon Culinary Showdown, where chefs showcased creative interpretations of Cebu’s iconic delicacy while paying tribute to traditional flavors. The celebration also featured Cebu’s Best Lechonero, recognizing the craftsmanship and dedication behind the province’s renowned roasting tradition. 

Adding to the festive atmosphere were the Lechon Eating Challenge, live music performances, and evening entertainment, creating a lively destination where guests could enjoy good food, discover local talent, and spend quality time with family and friends. 

Bringing communities together

More than a culinary showcase, the Cebu Lechon Festival celebrated the communities that continue to preserve one of Cebu’s strongest cultural traditions.

By bringing together local government units, culinary professionals, entrepreneurs, and participating municipalities, the festival highlighted the diversity of Cebu’s lechon culture while giving visitors a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship and heritage behind every roast.

Throughout the month, guests explored not only the festival attractions but also The Mactan Newtown’s restaurants, retail spaces, and open-air venues, reinforcing the township’s role as a destination where dining, leisure, tourism, and culture come together.
