Leaders of Left parties in Visakhapatnam have sought the withdrawal of the State government’s proposal to set up data centres in residential areas, alleging that the projects would adversely affect public health, livelihoods and the environment.

Addressing a joint press conference after a meeting at the CPI(M) district office in the city on Thursday (July 23, 2026), CPI(M) district secretary M. Jaggu Naidu, CPI district secretary S.K. Rahiman, SUCI(C) district secretary K. Govindarajulu, MCPI leader G.R.M. Reddy and CPI(ML) Praja Poru district secretary K. Devasahayam announced a joint visit to Tarluvada on July 27.

The leaders alleged that about 260 acres had been acquired from farmers and Dalits in Tarluvada and that another 162 acres had been allotted near the Mudasarlova Reservoir for a data centre project, posing a threat to trees, water resources and the local environment. They claimed that approvals had been granted without public consultation, and questioned the government’s claim that the projects would generate large-scale employment.

They asked farmers, residents and environmental activists to participate in the July 27 programme.
