PCSO rolls out relief operations for flood-hit Davao City

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., immediately mobilized its relief operations on Saturday in several areas hit by flash floods in Davao City.

Less than a day after the flooding, the PCSO activated its quick response mechanism by directing its regional branches to coordinate relief efforts on the ground, while tapping its network of Authorized Agent Corporations (AACs) to augment the agency’s relief operations.

Among the first to respond were Hexaprime Inc., Magic Three Gaming Corp., Northman Gaming Corp., and Antiguas Gaming Corp., with other AACs expected to extend support as relief efforts continue.

The flash floods hit Davao City on Friday, July 24, after heavy rains triggered by the southwest monsoon caused rivers and waterways to overflow, affecting thousands of residents and prompting emergency response operations.

According to PCSO General Manager Melquiades A. Robles, the agency wasted no time in deploying assistance.

“Time is of the essence during calamities. Every hour counts in bringing much-needed assistance to affected families,” Robles said. “Through the immediate mobilization of our regional offices and the invaluable support of our Authorized Agent Corporations, we are able to respond swiftly and extend help where it is needed most.”

The immediate relief operations are in line with the president’s directive for government agencies to ensure prompt and efficient delivery of services during emergencies.

According to Robles, the PCSO’s extensive network of regional branches and private-sector partners enables it to respond quickly to emergencies in various part of the country, allowing relief goods to be mobilized and distributed without delay.

“The PCSO remains steadfast in its commitment to serve the Filipino people, especially during times of crisis. We will continue working with our regional offices, local government units, and partner organizations to ensure that assistance reaches our affected kababayans as quickly as possible,” Robles said.

The PCSO said it continues to monitor the situation in Davao City and stands ready to provide additional assistance as needed, in coordination with local authorities and other government agencies. /atm
