Bihar government to withdraw cases lodged against protesters over NEET paper leak, release those jailed

The Bihar government on Monday (July 27, 2026) announced that it will withdraw all cases lodged against protesters over the NEET paper leak and release those jailed under various charges.

A statement to this effect was issued late in the evening by the State’s Home Department, which said that “no adverse legal action – punitive/retaliatory - shall be taken by the government against any individual participating in the protests before 6 p.m. on 26.07.2026”.

Petition in Supreme Court seeks ban on pellet guns

Retired Intelligence Bureau Special Director Yashovardhan Azad, along with two other victims of pellet gun injuries — an artist and another professional — has moved the Supreme Court to demand the decommissioning or banning of the use of wholly or partly metallic kinetic projectiles/pellets fired from pump-action rifles or projectile-action guns (PAG) for crowd dispersal of civilian assemblies by law enforcement agencies.

They are also seeking the grant of exemplary compensation to all victims of pellet injuries caused by state action on July 20, as well as ensuring complete medical treatment, care, and rehabilitation for the aforementioned victims.
